Cinematography Course in Chandigarh

See Light Differently. Frame Everything With Intent. Shoot on a RED Dragon.
The Director of Photography is the visual architect of every film, every series, every music video, every ad the creative professional who transforms a script into a living, breathing visual world.

It is one of the most respected, highest-paid, and most creatively rewarding roles in the entire film and content production industry. And at Pikazzo Institute, Chandigarh, we train cinematographers the only way that actually works by putting them behind a RED Dragon Cinema Camera from day one and keeping them there.

The RED Dragon is a professional cinema camera system the same equipment used on Hollywood feature films, premium Bollywood productions, and Punjabi cinema’s most ambitious projects. When you train on it, you train in the real language of professional cinematography. Your hands learn what a DP’s hands know. Your eye develops what a DP’s eye sees. And your portfolio contains footage that looks exactly like it belongs on a cinema screen because it was shot on cinema-grade equipment.

Combined with Pikazzo’s active involvement in Punjab’s Pre & Post Production industry, our students don’t just train — they shoot on real Pollywood productions, music video sets, and commercial shoots. These are genuine industry credits, built while you are still studying.

SECTION 1 — Course Overview

What is the Cinematography Course at Pikazzo Institute?

The Cinematography Course at Pikazzo Institute, Chandigarh is a comprehensive, production-centred training program that develops the full professional skill set of a working Director of Photography from the visual language of cinema and the science of light, through hands-on camera operation on cinema-grade equipment, to lighting design, lens selection, camera movement, DIT workflow, drone cinematography, and the on-set professional conduct that makes a DP indispensable to any production.

Cinematography is the craft of capturing moving images but that description dramatically understates what a great cinematographer actually does. A cinematographer is a visual storyteller. Every frame they compose communicates something beyond what the dialogue says. Every lighting setup they design shapes how an audience feels. Every lens they select alters how reality appears on screen. Every camera movement they choose creates or releases tension, intimacy, or awe. Cinematography is the art of making an audience feel without them ever knowing why.

This course is built to develop that instinct alongside the deep technical mastery of professional cinema cameras, lens systems, lighting equipment, and digital imaging workflows that make a DP employable in the real film industry.

At Pikazzo, the RED Dragon Cinema Camera is not a display item. It is the primary teaching instrument of this course. Every major project, every lighting exercise, every real-production assignment is shot on RED RAW. Students graduate having operated a professional cinema camera system for hundreds of hours with the footage, the muscle memory, and the technical confidence that experience builds.

SECTION 2 — The RED Dragon Advantage

What Training on a RED Dragon Actually Means for Your Career

Let’s be precise about what the RED Dragon is and why it matters so much to your career as a cinematographer.

The RED Dragon is a professional cinema camera built around a large-format, high-dynamic-range sensor capable of capturing cinema-quality images at resolutions up to 6K. It is used across major Hollywood productions, premium Bollywood feature films, global advertising shoots, and Punjabi cinema’s highest-budget projects. It shoots in RED RAW a proprietary RAW format that captures maximum image data for color grading and post-production flexibility.

Training on a RED Dragon teaches you things that simply cannot be learned on a DSLR or mirrorless camera:

Understanding a Professional Sensor The RED sensor captures latitude the range between deepest shadow and brightest highlight that DSLR sensors cannot match. Learning to expose for that latitude, to protect highlights and preserve shadow detail simultaneously, to read a waveform and understand what the sensor is actually seeing this is the fundamental skill of professional cinematography. You only learn it by shooting on professional equipment.

Cinema Lens Systems The RED Dragon is paired with cinema lens systems prime lenses with calibrated, repeatable focus marks, smooth iris and focus rings designed for focus pullers, and optical characteristics that shape the image in ways that stills lenses do not. Understanding focal length, depth of field, bokeh character, lens breathing, and the visual personality of different cinema glass is knowledge that only comes from working with it.

RAW Workflow & DIT RED RAW footage requires a professional on-set data management and quality control workflow the domain of the DIT (Digital Imaging Technician). You’ll learn to manage RED RAW data, create LUT-based monitoring setups for on-set review, perform basic color conforming, and manage the data pipeline from card to editorial a skill set that makes you valuable in any professional production environment and that most cinematography graduates from competing institutes have never been exposed to.

The Showreel That Gets You Hired When a production house, music video director, or advertising agency reviews your showreel, they see immediately whether your footage was shot on a cinema camera or a DSLR. The latitude, the skin tone rendering, the color depth, the sheer visual quality of RED Dragon footage is impossible to fake. Pikazzo students’ showreels contain cinema-grade footage and that difference is visible, credible, and career-defining.

SECTION 3 — What You Will Learn

The Complete Cinematography Skill Stack

Visual Storytelling & The Cinematographer’s Eye Great cinematography begins before the camera is ever turned on. You’ll learn to read a script visually to identify the emotional beats, the power dynamics between characters, the atmosphere of each scene and to translate those literary elements into specific visual decisions about framing, lighting, camera movement, and lens choice. This visual storytelling intelligence is the foundation everything else is built on.

Exposure & Sensor Science Understanding how a digital cinema sensor captures light ISO, shutter angle, aperture, dynamic range, clipping, noise, and the relationship between all of these is the core technical knowledge of a professional DP. You’ll master exposure using professional monitoring tools: waveform monitors, vector scopes, false color overlays, and histogram analysis. You will never rely on your camera’s internal JPEG preview to judge exposure again.

Camera Operation RED Dragon & Cinema Systems Hands-on operation of the RED Dragon from the fundamentals camera build, menu navigation, recording formats, frame rates through advanced shooting scenarios. Multiple camera operation, complex set configurations, camera reports, and on-set communication between the DP, camera operator, and camera assistant. You’ll also train on supplementary camera systems used across the Indian production industry Sony FX series, ARRI-adjacent workflows giving you cross-camera fluency.

Cinema Lenses Selection, Use & Visual Character Every lens tells a different story. Wide angles create scope and disorientation. Long telephotos compress space and create intimacy or threat. Fast primes deliver shallow depth of field and cinematic bokeh. You’ll study the visual character of different focal lengths and apertures, learn professional focus pulling technique, understand the difference between spherical and anamorphic lens systems, and develop the ability to choose the right lens for any story moment.

Anamorphic Cinematography Anamorphic lenses which produce the distinctive horizontal lens flares, oval bokeh, and ultra-wide aspect ratios associated with the classic cinematic look are increasingly used in Punjabi film, Bollywood, and premium advertising work. You’ll learn anamorphic optical principles, the specific shooting disciplines anamorphic requires, and how to create and use the anamorphic visual language intentionally.

Lighting Design The DP’s Most Powerful Tool Light is the medium of cinematography. Everything else is technique applied to what light does. You’ll learn professional lighting design from first principles the physics of light, quality, direction, contrast, color temperature through practical setup to advanced cinematic lighting for every genre and production format. Interior dramatic lighting. Exterior natural and augmented light. Night shoots and low-light techniques. High-key commercial lighting. Music video aesthetic lighting. Each serves a different creative and technical purpose, and you will master all of them.

Camera Movement From Tripod to Drone How a camera moves through space is one of the most powerful expressive tools a DP has. You’ll learn every form of professional camera movement: tripod and fluid head technique, handheld cinema ergonomics, gimbal operation (DJI RS series and cinema gimbals), dolly and slider movement, crane and jib technique and drone cinematography using DJI cinema drones, including pre-flight planning, airspace regulations, smooth aerial movement technique, and integrating drone footage into a coherent cinematographic visual language.

Composition & Visual Language The rules of composition and more importantly, how and when to break them. The rule of thirds, golden ratio, leading lines, depth layering, foreground interest, negative space, symmetry, frame within frame studied both as principles and as intentional creative choices. You’ll develop the ability to compose a frame that communicates subconsciously and to understand why certain compositions create specific emotional responses in an audience.

Color Science & On-Set Color Management The modern cinematographer works in a color-managed workflow from the first moment of principal photography. You’ll learn color science fundamentals color spaces, gamma curves, LOG formats, ACES pipeline basics and how to set up a professional on-set color management system using LUTs, calibrated monitors, and DIT software. You’ll understand how the choices made on set directly determine what is possible in the color grade.

DIT Digital Imaging Technician Workflow The DIT is the on-set technical guardian of image quality and data safety and most cinematography graduates across India have no idea what a DIT actually does, let alone how to be one. At Pikazzo, DIT workflow is a dedicated part of the curriculum: RED RAW data management, media offloading and verification, on-set LUT creation and monitoring, daily reel creation, and the communication between DIT and the post-production color department. This knowledge makes you invaluable on any professional set as a DP or as a DIT in your own right.

Sound Awareness for Cinematographers Great DPs understand how their camera decisions interact with sound production. You’ll learn the basics of production sound microphone placement relative to camera framing, how to adjust framing to accommodate sound needs, and how to communicate effectively with the sound department on set. This cross-department awareness is a mark of a professional that distinguishes experienced cinematographers from beginners.

Music Video Cinematography The Punjabi music video market is one of the largest and most actively producing in all of India and it has a specific, distinct visual language that is different from narrative film cinematography. You’ll study and practice music video cinematography: performance coverage, dynamic camera movement, color and lighting aesthetics specific to the genre, and working at the pace of a music video shoot where setups change rapidly and every shot must work as a standalone image.

Advertising & Commercial Cinematography Advertising cinematography demands a specific discipline perfect exposure, controlled and repeatable lighting, product-safe color rendering, and the ability to execute a precise visual brief in compressed shooting time. You’ll learn commercial cinematography for product films, brand videos, and ad films the most consistently commissioned and well-paid non-narrative cinematography work in North India.

Documentary Cinematography Documentary and factual content requires a completely different skill set from narrative film observational framing, run-and-gun camera operation, available light mastery, and the ability to capture unrepeatable moments with technical discipline. You’ll practice documentary cinematography techniques and understand when and how to apply them.

Drone Cinematography Full Module Drone footage has become standard in film, music video, advertising, and event production and skilled drone operators who also understand cinematographic composition are in demand. You’ll learn DJI drone operation from pre-flight safety and airspace protocols through smooth aerial movement technique, creative aerial composition, integration with ground-based camera work, and export specifications for production use. Every student completes a real aerial cinematography exercise.

Pre-Production for Cinematographers Shot Lists, Storyboards & Location Scouts A professional DP doesn’t just show up on set and improvise. You’ll learn the pre-production workflow of a Director of Photography: reading and breaking down scripts visually, creating shot lists and storyboards, conducting location scouts with a cinematographic eye, choosing equipment packages, and having pre-production visual language conversations with directors.

Showreel Editing & Career Strategy A cinematographer’s showreel is their entire career argument. You’ll learn how to select, sequence, and edit your best footage into a showreel that demonstrates range, technical quality, and visual sensibility and how to present it on the professional platforms where DPs and camera operators get discovered and hired.

SECTION 6 — Why Choose Pikazzo

Why Pikazzo is the Best Cinematography Institute in Chandigarh

The Only Cinematography Institute in North India Whose Students Train on a RED Dragon This is the most important single fact about Pikazzo’s Cinematography Course. Not “access” to a RED Dragon in a demonstration session. Not a single supervised RED shoot at the end of the course. The RED Dragon is the primary camera of this course the instrument students operate from their first practical session to their final project. The difference this makes to the quality of learning, to the quality of footage produced, and to the quality of the showreel is fundamental and visible.

DIT Training The Skill Nobody Else Offers DIT is one of the most in-demand technical roles on professional film productions and almost no cinematography course in India teaches it. Pikazzo’s DIT module covers media offload, RED RAW management, on-set LUT workflows, dailies creation, and data safety skills that make graduates immediately employable in professional production environments and that open a second career track alongside DP work.

Pikazzo’s dedicated drone cinematography module, with hands-on DJI drone operation and real aerial shooting exercises, ensures graduates can offer drone cinematography as part of their professional skill set. Most competing institutes mention drones briefly. Pikazzo teaches it completely.

Anamorphic Cinematography A Premium Career Differentiator Anamorphic lenses produce the most distinctively cinematic visual character in all of photography the horizontal lens flares, oval bokeh, and unique rendering that immediately signals premium production value. Very few cinematographers in North India are trained to shoot anamorphic. Pikazzo’s anamorphic module makes our graduates rare in the regional market and significantly more attractive to directors who want that cinematic look.

Our students are surrounded by graphic designers, animators, VFX artists, and motion designers all working in the same creative culture. This environment develops the visual intelligence, the design sensibility, and the compositional instinct that elevates technical camera skill into genuine cinematic artistry.

The Best Cinematographers Don't Just Learn to Use a Camera. They Learn to See.

At Pikazzo, you develop both the technical mastery of cinema-grade equipment and the visual intelligence of a professional Director of Photography.
